Active holiday in Mauritius 2025

Let's explore the magical island nation of Africa"

2 places available!

Mauritius is an African island country in the Indian Ocean in the Mascarene archipelago, which includes the island of Mauritius and its surrounding small islands. Mauritius has friendly people, iridescent light blue seas and tropical nature, and no dangerous spiders or snakes!

We plan to discover the wonderful hiking trails of Mauritius, with lush nature, climb the roof of Mauritius, feed giant tortoises and swim on beaches that look like they're from a postcard, and swim in the warm sea water (and the sea is so warm that you might even whine that it's not cooling you down 😊). We will get to know the local way of life and taste the Creole national cuisine, which has influences from many countries. Day trips are with a small backpack, do not require good physical preparation, and we will stay in the same hotel all nights.

In short - we enjoy being relaxed!

If a week of recharging your batteries isn't enough, you can of course extend your trip on your own. For example, visit world-famous golf courses or just bask on the beach with a cocktail.

November is the perfect time to visit Mauritius - daytime temperatures are 25-28 °Around C, the rainy season is over, the sea water is a pleasant 24-25 °C and the French and English families haven't come to enjoy the school holidays with their children yet! November is therefore ideal summer weather and still few tourists, while at the same time it tends to be gloomy and dark in our homeland... so in every sense a great time to have a refreshing sunbath.

Schedule and activities

DAY 1 - Arrival in Mauritius

We have arrived at a wonderful tropical island!

We arrive at Mauritius International Airport (MRU), where a transfer awaits us, which will first take us to our hotel. The day is dedicated to resting after a long flight. Once we have gathered our first reserves of strength, we can go exploring! The choice is ours – whether we try the incredibly pleasant sea water or head to experience the local atmosphere.

In the evening, we will have a joint introductory dinner, during which we can discuss upcoming plans and also get to know each other better!

The price includes dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 2 - The adventure in Mauritius begins – and the first summit right away!

The last third of the way to the top, where you have to push yourself up over rocks, is nerve-wracking and challenging.

After a proper breakfast, we will climb to the top of Le Morne Brabant (555 m).

First we drive to the foot of Le Morne, where our hiking trail begins today. Mount Le Morne Brabant, or Le Morne Brabant, is one of the most popular peaks on the peninsula of the same name in the southwest of Mauritius. The trail offers exciting variety - there are both forested sections and expansive coastal views. The last third of the summit, where you have to scramble up the rocks, is nerve-wracking and challenging. But nothing is impossible for a vacationer with an adventurous spirit!

The history of the mountain is connected with a sad story, namely the era of slavery. According to legend, runaway slaves hid in the caves of Le Morne and, when slavery was abolished in the 19th century and uniformed soldiers came to the mountain to announce their release to the fugitives, many feared that they would be captured and decided to jump off the mountain. This is also one of the reasons why Mount Le Morne was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

From the top, there are wonderful views of the coast and the invitingly shimmering light blue sea. Now some of us will probably run down to the beach so we can stretch out and take a well-deserved rest. 😊

We hike for 4-5 hours during the day.

The price includes breakfast and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 3 - Hike on the trails of seven waterfalls

Today's day in the green paradise will be spent on hiking trails that will take us to explore seven waterfalls. The fascinating Tamarind Falls, commonly known as the 7 Cascades, located in the southwest of Mauritius, is one of the natural wonders of Mauritius.

After breakfast, we drive to the starting point of the hike - the village of Henrietta. There we will be met by a local guide who knows these hiking trails like the back of his hand and will tell us exciting stories about both the hiking trail and Mauritius itself. We will make plenty of photo breaks along the way to capture all the stunning views that open up to us. In addition to the views of the tropical landscapes, you can see many exotic bird and plant species in the area.

Seven sparkling pools also offer opportunities for a refreshing swim, and a natural spa offers special pleasure, where garra rufa Fish provide free care for our feet that need pampering. In Estonia, you have to pay a lot of money for this care, but here nature provides it for us!

During the hike, we will also have a picnic and enjoy the day in a wonderful paradise while moving at a leisurely pace!

If we still have time after the hike, we will head to the island's capital - Port Louis. We will get to know the city better: we will wander the streets, visit Chinatown and the city market, taste rich street food, take a picture at the Bolshoi Theater (the oldest theater in the southern hemisphere), climb to Fort Adelaide, and walk along the ramparts.

We hike for 5-6 hours during the day.

The price includes breakfast, picnic lunch and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 4 - To the sea!

Today we will gather strength by cruising to the eastern islands and admire Mauritius from the sea.

There are several islands off the east coast, we land on Ile aux Cerfs. The island has a paradise beach of white sand, wide palm trees and azure water, which will not let any thoughts of everyday life get close! The day is full of various adventures - we snorkel, see the magnificent waterfalls of the Grand River South East (GRSE), a giant bat colony and monkeys, and maybe even spot dolphins playing in the wake of the catamaran. If you wish, we try a small rope course (about 20 dollars), drink a cocktail and walk along a shady alley.

We will eat the Mauritian national lunch on a stylish pirate ship.

The price includes breakfast, lunch and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 5 - The highest peak in Mauritius!

Piton de la Petite Riviere Noire, or Bench 828, is the highest mountain and peak in Mauritius. That's right, the height is a very manageable 828 meters! Locals call it the "Roof of Mauritius".

In the morning we wake up, eat and start the journey to the beginning of the hiking trail. The hike takes us through the wonderful tropical nature of Mauritius, offering once again views that you might be looking for at our latitude 😊 We walk, enjoy, take pictures until we finally reach a colorful bench on the roof of Mauritius.

After conquering the peak, let's go see the picturesque village in the northwest of the island. Chamarel Park. This is one of the must-see attractions for any visitor to Mauritius - a natural wonder, a small piece of land with seven colors. There we see volcanic ash, painted in a total of seven shades: several shades of pink, purple, orange and gray. We also admire the 100-meter waterfall of the same name.

We hike for 5-6 hours during the day.

The price includes breakfast and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 6 - La Vanille Nature Park and Giant Tortoises

Today we will meet giant Aldabra tortoises in La Vanille Natural Park. This is the only place in the world where these tortoises are bred. And there are thousands of them here! We will see both a huge 90-year-old tortoise and tiny babies.

After breakfast we start the journey. In La Vanille Natural Park There is an exclusive opportunity to feed and interact with hundreds of giant tortoises, watch a feeding show of large Nile crocodiles, meet Octari, the local iguana, and much more. Those interested can also feed the crocodiles and large tortoises themselves.

During our visit, we can also taste something extraordinary - crocodile meat! The local restaurant has a special crocodile meat dish for adventurous foodies.

We then move to the west coast of the island – to the popular beach in the western part of Mauritius – Flic-n-Flac.

The beach is famous for its wide white sand and local vibe. We let ourselves be carried away by the holiday wave there too!

The price includes breakfast and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 7 - Black River Gorges "The Gorges"

Today we will give our legs a sore start again – after breakfast we will set off to conquer the Black River Gorges. The Black River Gorges National Park is not only one of the island's main attractions, but also the best hiking park in Mauritius. The total length of the hiking trails in the park is over 60 km and they pass through very different landscapes.

We will walk along the Maccabi Trail – this forest trail offers wonderful views of the Black River Gorge. The Black River got its name from the color of the rocks lining the riverbed. Hopefully we will encounter birds, picturesque waterfalls, lots of tropical flowers and maybe even a fruiting Chinese guava.

We hike for 5-6 hours during the day.

The price includes breakfast and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 8 - now it's time to go home!

After breakfast, transfer to the airport to start your journey home... but those who have the opportunity and desire can stay in Mauritius longer and enjoy the wonderful weather and friendly atmosphere!

This is a great love of the islanders, an extinct bird that is also the symbol of Mauritius.

NB! There may be minor changes to the schedule and planned activities - for example, due to weather and conditions or passenger requests.

Don't worry, let's do it!

Is this hike suitable for me?

Definitely! This is an active vacation. In addition, since you will be staying in one hotel throughout the adventure, you can also choose to avoid daytime activities and rest in other ways if you wish.

But I don't have any hiking gear, who can afford to buy it?!

The climate in Mauritius in November is such that normal athletic clothing and light hiking shoes are sufficient for hiking.

Okay, I registered. Now what?

To make the hike more enjoyable, we recommend participating in our preparatory events before the trip - it's also part of the fun. Elamus+ also organizes preparatory hiking training courses and, if desired, we can provide advice on suitable insurance and equipment, where to rent them cheaply, what exercises to do, etc.
