Basic rock climbing training: top belaying

Basic rock climbing training: top belaying

From the bouldering hall to the rocks - your first step towards rope climbing

Have you been bouldering, but would like to know how to climb higher walls? Have you ever learned to belay, but would like to refresh your knowledge before new adventures? We have the perfect course for you!

During the one-day training, we will learn to climb with top protection (top rope climbing), we talk about safety and equipment for both indoor and outdoor climbing, and we go over the ABCs of rock climbing. One of the goals of the training is to acquire the skills to climb on real rocks with more experienced companions, so we also discuss the specifics of rock routes compared to indoor walls. We focus primarily on sport climbing.

The training is open to complete beginners, boulderers, and those who want to consolidate previously learned skills. The training is practical in nature - we will immediately get our hands dirty and try everything out. We will climb on an 8,5 m high indoor wall in the Tartu University Sports Hall, but you don't have to be afraid of bone-breaking athletic effort for the time being.

After completing the top-down security training, you can take the follow-up training in bottom-up security (lead climbing) to learn what is necessary for completely independent climbing: the training will take place on September 10th in Tartu (see hereHowever, completing both training courses sequentially is only recommended for those interested in climbing with prior climbing experience, as climbing with a belay device already requires controlled and confident climbing.

In addition, those who complete the training will receive a 5% discount on the rock climbing trip taking place from September 17th to 22nd. Crag Express: Jura, Poland (NB! Different discounts cannot be combined).
