Security guard card training: green card
Complete training and take an exam to climb independently in indoor halls
Want to try rope climbing, but don't know where to start? Have you heard that new rope climbing walls will be opening soon in Tartu, but don't have a lifeguard card yet? The first step is a green lifeguard card.
In order to climb rope climbing walls independently, you need a lifeguard card. Cards are issued by Estonian Climbing Association and the presence of the card confirms to the sports club that the person has the skills and knowledge to climb independently with a rope. There are two lifeguard cards: a green card and a red card. The green card gives the right to climb independently with a lifeguard (top rope (i.e. the rope has already been set up) and to use automatic belay stations; the red card also gives the right to independently belay (lead (or you can bring the rope up yourself) to go climbing and guide a novice climber.
More information about the security guard card and requirements can be found on the page map.ronimisliit.ee. NB! The security card is only in virtual form and is register-based (register.ronimisliit.ee).
During the training day, we will go through all the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the green lifeguard card exam. We will learn to climb in a high-security position (top rope climbing), we will talk about climbing safety both indoors and outdoors and get acquainted with the necessary equipment. After the training, participants have the opportunity to take the green card exam, upon successful completion of which we will issue a green security guard card.
Who is the green security guard card training for?
The training is open to complete beginners, boulderers, and those who want to consolidate previously learned skills and review them for the exam. The training is practical in nature - we will immediately get our hands dirty and try everything out. We will climb on an 8,5 m high indoor wall in the Tartu University Sports Hall, but you don't have to be afraid of bone-breaking athletic effort for the time being.
Red Card Training and Exam will take place on 08.12.2023 and participation is subject to prior knowledge of belaying or completion of this training. Previous climbing experience is also beneficial.
