Ice climbing practice area

A practice area for beginner ice climbers!

NB! Places are full and registration is closed!

Let's get acquainted with ice climbing! Or reacquainted, as anyone would. A good opportunity to find and sharpen your crampons and picks and put them to the test on the ice.

The plan is the ABC of ice climbing, or the simplest type of climbing and belaying with top protection. The main goal is to get used to climbing on an ice slope with crampons. No previous experience is necessary - we will teach, guide and belay on site. Climbing equipment is also not necessary - it can also be rented on site. So both complete beginners in climbing and those who have already climbed here and there before but want to refresh their knowledge of the basics can participate.

Training ground activities:

  • Climbing an ice wall with top protection with two picks - climb as much as you can

  • Securing a climbing companion

  • Rope descent from the edge of a bank

  • We introduce climbing techniques, climbing equipment and knots used in climbing.

The ice climbing practice area is located on the North Estonian coast, on the Rannamõisa bank, right on the seashore. Less than half an hour's drive from Tallinn. Veins flow down from the bank and form ice waterfalls when they freeze. This is a perfect place for beginner ice climbers to practice climbing on an icy slope.

When looking for treatment options for climbing fungus, we also recommend that you familiarize yourself with: Elamus+ with travel calendar.

Practical information

🚩 The ice climbing practice area is open on Saturday (February 13) and Sunday (February 14). You can participate on one day that suits you, or if you want to practice more, you can come on several days.

🚩 Every climbing day we start at 11 am, then the climbing ropes are up and the equipment is ready for climbing. You can climb until 15 pm, by which time your arms are usually tired, so we pack up then. Evening groups start at 15 pm and can climb until 19 pm.

🚩 The ice climbing practice area is located on the North Estonian coast, less than half an hour's drive from Tallinn. We will send detailed instructions on where and how to get there directly to those who have registered.

🚩 You should wear warm, windproof, and layered clothing (you can then put on a thicker jacket and gloves for waiting breaks). It is recommended to wear high hiking boots or other winter boots that are as stiff as possible.

🚩 Each participant needs their own personal climbing equipment (cradles, climbing harness, helmet) - these items can be borrowed on site if you indicate this when registering. In addition, we will use the group's shared climbing equipment (ropes, ice picks, carabiners, descent and safety equipment) - these are Elamus+ already organized on site for everyone to use.
