Gudauri - the pearl of the Caucasus

Georgia is calling, the mountains are calling. If you can, you must! At the end of February, we board a plane and head to the Gudauri ski resort in the Caucasus Mountains. The resort is about 2200 meters above sea level and the slopes reach up to 3200 meters. All slopes open for skiing are located above the tree line, which makes the resort ideal for off-piste skiing. The total length of the slopes is 64 km and there are seven lifts in total. Georgia is a developing region, and so is the Gudauri resort. Only a few years ago, a new lift was opened, which significantly expanded the resort. There are trails for every level of difficulty. Both aces and beginners will get an adrenaline rush. Those who wish can immediately try paragliding, which allows you to see the best slopes of the Caucasus from above. As a bonus, we also have a day to explore the Georgian capital, Tbilisi.

Ski resort and accommodation
Gudauri
As mentioned in the introduction, this is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Caucasus Mountains! The slopes range in altitude from 1993 to 3276 m, with 70% of the slopes being above 2000 m. So there is no need to worry about a lack of snow. The longest slide offers 6 km of skiing pleasure.

Accommodation
Throughout the trip we will stay in hotels in double and triple rooms. Our hotel is located near the mountain lift, which means that we can immediately put down our skis and boards in the morning and go skiing, and in the evening we can almost glide out of the house. The center of New Gudauri is a 10-minute walk from the accommodation, where there are shops, bars, restaurants and après ski party venues. We are located in the middle of the Gudauri resort, which means we are in the perfect location to explore all the slopes.
Catering
All breakfasts and dinners are at the hotel and included in the price (except dinners in Tbilisi). Depending on the group's preferences, we can have joint lunches/dinners. There are shops and restaurants in the nearby New Gudauri center. We will spend the day on the mountain and lunch can be obtained from the restaurants-bars located on the mountain. Lunch in the eateries located on the mountain can be expected to cost 7-12€. However, if you search a little, you can also find a burger or kebab for 3€.
Evening activities
We can fill our evenings with various activities. In New Gudauri there are several live music venues. après-ski. bars and pubs - you can go to them directly from the ski slope!
Additional activities
If you don't have enough adrenaline on the mountain, there is also a paragliding service to see the slopes from a higher level. It is not excluded that we will also offer helicopter tours to explore more distant slopes - of course, for an additional fee.
Ski and snowboard lessons
For those who want to hone or practice their technique, we can take a group ski or snowboard lesson in the first half of the day. The instructor is adventure enthusiast Kaspar, who is a certified ski and snowboard coach.
Transport
We will arrive in Georgia by flight. Flight tickets are not included in the package, but ask the tour operator about the options. Together we will find the best offer and suitable flights so that everyone is there on time.
For example, currently, airline tickets (8 kg + 23 kg + sports equipment) cost around €425.
A 20-seater minibus will pick us up from the airport, take us from Tbilisi Airport to Gudauri, bring us back from Gudauri to Tbilisi, and later take us back to the airport.
Travel schedule
18.02 - Departure from Tallinn!
Departure from Tallinn is at 9.00:7.00* in the morning 🚀, so we gather at the airport at 19:05. At XNUMX:XNUMX* we land in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and transfer to a private chauffeured bus to head to Gudauri. On the way, we make a quick stop for snacks at a local shop and arrive at the hostel before midnight. Check-in, share rooms and go to sleep.

19.02 - Gamarjoba!
Breakfast at the accommodation and we gather at the main lift of New Gudauri, we distribute the mountain passes and the ride can begin! In the evening we get to know and learn about how Georgia après ski looks like.
20.02 - Serious mountain day
Breakfast at the accommodation and we head to the mountain. The night before we agree on a time and place to meet with the instructor so that those who wish can hone their board/ski skills. If the snow conditions are favorable, we will go see the local ski resorts with interested parties. off-piste paths.
21/22.02 - Third and fourth days on the mountain
After breakfast, we will hone our skiing skills and enjoy a nice day in the mountains until the lifts close. If we are stronger, we can hike to a nearby mountain to get some fresh powder.
23.02 - Day five, Hello Tbilisi!
We eat our fill in the morning, the more diligent ones can ride for a few more hours, and then we return the rented equipment, pack our things, and hand over the accommodation. At about 15 pm we set off for Tbilisi. After a three-hour drive, we check into the accommodation and go exploring the city.
24.02 - 🍷 AND LOCAL CULTURE
We celebrate Estonian Independence Day with dignity. We explore the city, those who wish can cleanse their bodies in sulfur baths, we walk through must see places in Tbilisi, we enjoy the warm weather and the old town. We visit Georgia's number one wine shop. We end the evening with a rich Georgian dinner with local songs and dances.
25.02 - ARE YOU REALLY GOING HOME?
Unfortunately, but fortunately, there is still time before noon to buy the last souvenirs from the city and grab a good grape drink. In order to be at the airport on time, we take off at 19 am and comfortably catch the flight departing at 50:XNUMX pm*. We arrive in our homeland a quarter of an hour after midnight.

Equipment
If you have all the necessary ski equipment, you can easily put it in your ski luggage on the plane. However, if you don't have any equipment, that's okay. There are two options for renting equipment: from Estonia or from the ski resort, rental in Georgia starts at 10€/day. It should be borne in mind that renting from Estonia will require significantly more rental days.
If you plan to go outside the groomed slopes in search of fresh snow, we definitely recommend bringing avalanche equipment. Although groomed trails are safe, ungroomed trails are off-piste There may be a risk of avalanches in the areas.
Travel documents and Covid-19
The participant is responsible for the validity and orderliness of their travel documents. The following documents are required for this trip:

*Currently, a vaccination certificate is not required to travel to Georgia, but please note that travel requirements may change. We will of course keep travelers informed of any changes.
