The capital, Tbilisi, is multicultural. Throughout history, Georgia has experienced many wars and occupations, which is why even today, a piece of every era of government can be found in Tbilisi's old town.
Let's explore the Gudauri ski resort, located 120 kilometers from the capital, Tbilisi, or about a 2-hour drive. All the slopes open for skiing are located above the tree line, making the resort ideal freeride The resort has trails for all levels and a total of about 80 km of pure skiing fun! In addition to the wonderful ski trails, there are numerous bars and restaurants on site, where you can take a refreshing break between skiing or go straight to the slopes after a long day of skiing. après-ski. to enjoy the fun. The beginning of February is a great time for downhill skiing - the temperatures are pleasantly wintery and there is fresh snow on the slopes, but the sun is already shining. We scheduled our trip outside of the school holidays to avoid the larger crowds. Although the focus is on downhill skiing, we spend our evenings relaxing in the hotel sauna and spa; if we still have time, we also do various exciting activities in the vicinity - there is no shortage of good old board games!

Ski resort and accommodation
Gudauri
As mentioned in the introduction, this is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Caucasus Mountains! The resort has a total length of about 80 km of trails, where both beginners and advanced skiers can find activities. However, if the groomed trails do not offer enough excitement, there are numerous off-piste (off-piste) opportunities and there is a snow park for trick-making.
The slopes range in altitude from 1993 to 3276 m, with 70% of the slopes being above 2000 m. So there is no need to worry about a lack of snow. The longest slide offers 6 km of skiing fun.

Accommodation
Throughout the trip, we will stay in hotels in double rooms with the option to choose between double or twin beds.
The ski resort hotel is well-equipped. You can dry your equipment in a separate drying room, there is a spa and sauna area, which will definitely come in handy after a tiring day of skiing. In good weather, you can also enjoy the terrace, with beautiful mountain views from the room windows.
Our hotel is located close to the Maja ski lift, which means we can put on our skis and go skiing in the morning and glide out of the house almost in the evening. The New Gudauri centre is a 10-minute walk from our accommodation, where you can find shops, bars, restaurants and après ski party places. We are located in the middle of the Gudauri resort, which means we are in the perfect location to explore all the slopes. At the same time, we are quiet and secluded enough to get a good night's sleep.
Catering
All breakfasts are at the hotel and included in the price. Depending on the group's preferences, we can have joint lunches/dinners. There are shops and restaurants in the nearby New Gudauri center. We will spend the day on the mountain and lunch can be enjoyed in the restaurants-bars located on the mountain. It should be noted that lunch in the restaurants located on the mountain can cost 7-12€. However, if you search a little, you can also find a burger or kebab for 3€.
Evening activities
We can fill our evenings with various activities. In New Gudauri there are also several with live music. après-ski. bars and pubs - you can go to them directly from the ski slope! Those who don't care about partying can relax in the hotel's spas and saunas.
Additional activities
If you don't have enough adrenaline on the mountain, we can organize a paragliding session or a couple of faster snowmobile rides for an additional fee. It is not excluded that we can also offer helicopter tours to explore more distant slopes - of course, for an additional fee.
Those who want to hone or practice their technique can hire a cheerful instructor on site for an additional fee.
Transport
We will arrive in Georgia by flight. Flight tickets are not included in the package, but ask the tour operator about the options. Together we will find the best offer and suitable flights so that everyone is there on time.
For example, currently, airline tickets (8kg + 23kg + sports equipment) cost around €280.
A 20-seater minibus will pick us up from the airport and take us from Tbilisi Airport to Gudauri, back to Tbilisi from Gudauri, and then back to the airport.
Schedule and activities
Days 1-2
Friday, 04.02. We agree on transportation options to arrive at Riga airport at 20.00:23.10. We drop off our luggage and head on to wait for our flight. Most of the group will be on the flight, which departs at XNUMX:XNUMX in the evening.
We arrive in Tbilisi early on Saturday, February 05.02th. We arrive from the flight, collect our luggage and head to the airport, where a transfer awaits us. Those who wish can exchange euros for local lari and purchase a Georgian SIM card to enjoy a constant good and cheap internet connection.
We arrive at the resort around 9.00:XNUMX am, settle into our rooms, rest a bit, and then head to the mountain!
Days 2-6
MOUNTAIN DAYS! We are here, settled in and hopefully rested from the ride. This means that for the next 5 days we will be romping on the slopes. The only goal is to enjoy! Some enjoy the regular trail, some are looking for powder, some are looking for the hardest trail, some are looking for the tastiest beer.
Generally, the lifts start closing at 17.00:XNUMX PM, so by then we will start quietly returning to the hotel. We will wash, use the sauna, eat, dry our equipment, etc. There is no set plan for the evenings - depending on the wishes of the group, you can play board games, cards, watch a movie or relax in another way, or you can go afterski to enjoy. There are lots of exciting activities in the area. In general, we just keep checking how people are feeling and what they want to do - taxis are also available if necessary.
Days 7-9
On the last two days, we will immerse ourselves in the multicultural environment of the capital, Tbilisi.
On the 7th day, we will go on a tour of the Old Town together (buy souvenirs, taste the best ice cream in Georgia, etc.). We will also visit one of the most famous wineries in Georgia, Khareba, where you can try different wines on site, buy cask wines directly from the cask, and for an additional fee, do a more in-depth tasting. Together, we can also visit the famous sulfur baths of Tbilisi, which have been known throughout history as a place to restore health (for an additional fee). According to legend, Alexander Pushkin himself went there to improve his health.
Day 8 is a free day to explore the city. If you wish, we can also do something together. In the evening, we will end the trip with a magnificent Georgian dinner!
On the last day, we pack up, thank you for the memories, say goodbye to Georgia for now! Transfer to the airport is at 03.00:05.20 in the morning; our preferred return flight departs at 6.45:XNUMX. We will be back in Riga at XNUMX:XNUMX in the morning local time. We return to everyday life with fresh emotions and a rested mind.
Equipment
If you have all the necessary ski equipment, it can be conveniently placed in the ski luggage you can check in. However, if you don't have any equipment, that's okay. There are two options for renting equipment: from Estonia or directly from the ski resort. Renting the entire set from Estonia, for example from Hawaii Express, costs ~125€/10p, while in Georgia it starts at 10€/p. It should be borne in mind that renting from Estonia requires 9 or 10 rental days, while renting locally requires 5.
If you plan to go outside the groomed slopes in search of fresh snow, we definitely recommend bringing avalanche equipment. Although groomed trails are safe, ungroomed trails are off-piste There may be a risk of avalanches in the areas.
