Basic mountaineering training #1

Climbing with top protection and ascending/descending on a support rope

Alpinism refers to more technical mountain routes, but it is still worth practicing before going to the mountains. During the two-day training, we will learn the very first basics of alpinism: belaying and climbing with a top belay, ascending/descending on a support rope, and the necessary equipment and knots. The initial alpinism training is primarily aimed at complete beginners - those interested in climbing a wall with a rope and who have never climbed a wall with a rope and do not know what it means to climb on a support rope.

In addition, we are waiting for those interested in this training who want to start attending TÜASK's mountaineering training in Tartu. The training is conducted by mountaineering training coaches and after completing this training you are already welcome to join the mountaineering training - more on this below.

The training is practical in nature - we will get our hands dirty right away and try everything out. We will also climb the wall and ascend the support rope, but you don't have to be afraid of a sweaty workout at first. However, we will focus on techniques so that you can join the workout in the future. The training will take place indoors.

Leave any excess items that could get caught or fall out of your pocket at home or in a sports bag (e.g. rings, necklaces, keys, phone, etc.). You can take a sports bag with you to the hall. There are lockable lockers in the changing room. TÜASK is not responsible for items left in the locker. There are washing facilities and a toilet.

Suitable footwear is clean sports shoes (free training/running shoes); TÜASK's requirement is that outdoor shoes are not allowed in the hall.

Food and drink

Bring a water bottle (you can fill it in the cloakroom). The training lasts about 4 hours, so you can bring snacks if you wish.

Special equipment

We provide special equipment for climbing and rope work. If you have your own equipment, you can bring: climbing shoes, climbing harness, safety gear, carabiners, rappelling ropes, slings, self-belaying points, talcum powder and a talcum powder bag. A helmet is not required.
