Why come to mountaineering training?
The goal of mountaineering training is to develop the knowledge and skills needed to move safely and efficiently in mountainous terrain — with the ultimate aim of reaching the summit. It’s a highly versatile form of training that combines both mental and physical challenges. You’ll learn how to solve various problems and navigate situations that can arise during alpine adventures, all while building confidence in mountain movement and safety. In ropework sessions, we cover essential techniques such as belaying and crevasse rescue — both in theory and in practice. Climbing training delivers a full-body workout, from fingertips to toes. While rock climbing may seem daunting at first, progress usually comes quickly as you build specific strength and refine your technique. To support well-rounded development, we also incorporate separate strength and running sessions — giving you the complete package.
We maintain a friendly, supportive, and relaxed atmosphere in our training sessions. It’s also a great place to meet like-minded people and find adventure partners for future trips. Come and try something new — something fun, something bold, something a little extreme. Build your skills and head to the mountains for unforgettable experiences!
As everyone knows, Estonia is short on mountains — which is why Estonian alpinists are always looking beyond the border, to distant peaks. That’s also the spirit of our training: one of its key goals is to prepare you for a real mountain trip, where you can immediately put your new skills into practice. You’ll find upcoming mountain adventures under Elamus+ menu, where our experienced group leaders will show you the way to the top.
What does a mountaineering training look like?
There are 3 main training areas in mountaineering training:
Rock climbing
Rope work
General physical preparation
Rock climbing During the training, you will learn to climb confidently with a rope on a vertical wall equipped with climbing pegs. The routes of varying difficulty, which are changed about twice a year, allow the trainees to gradually develop their climbing skills. Rock climbing is a physical exercise that develops muscle strength, endurance, coordination and problem-solving. In addition, we learn bottom and top belay techniques in climbing training. The main goal of indoor wall climbing is to train the trainee to physical, technical and mental competence, which will allow them to climb natural rocks (including, of course, mountain routes).
Rope work During training, we learn to use the tools used in mountaineering and solve technical situations. For example, rescuing someone from an ice crevasse, moving in a two-rope team on technical rock terrain, ascending and descending along a support rope with minimal equipment, etc. Rope work training is somewhat more theoretical in nature and the main emphasis is on acquiring new practical knowledge. However, especially in advanced training, as the training progresses, we will increasingly solve complex tasks and combine rope work with rock climbing.
General physical preparation The goal of training is to create a physical base for mountaineering. General physical preparation includes strength, endurance and running training. Since life in the mountains is kondimootori power, then good basic strength, endurance and physical fitness are important in a mountaineer's arsenal. General physical training also contributes to development in climbing training.
Depending on the Estonian snow conditions and conditions, we also teach ice climbing and the use of picks and crampons, which are also some of the basic skills of a mountaineer. To a certain extent, this can also be practiced indoors, but not as successfully as outdoors in winter. In addition, we offer mountaineering trainees the opportunity to attend additional trips and training courses both in Estonia and further afield.
